25 miles south of Yosemite Valley is a historic community called Wawona. Wawona is nestled on a beautiful meadow near the South Fork of the Merced river. A guy by the name of Galen Clark, who is a significant figure in Yosemite’s past, built Clark’s station here and the cabin later grew to become the Wawona Hotel.
A large number of private cabins and homes have been developed just east of the main road. This area know as section 35 was privately owned but became a part of Yosemite Nation Park. Many of the residences are available for rent in the summer months.
